“This current expansion at sea will continue to be a symbol, because it embodies my vision, which I hope is shared by all, of a kingdom that is bold, that embraces adventure, that has a taste for risk, but manages it wisely. knows how to listen to its destiny and environment,” declared Albert of Monaco in his opening speech
Princess Alexandra of Hanover and her boyfriend Ben-Sylvester Strautmann, whom she has been dating for eight years, were also in attendance. The young man, 26 years old, comes from a wealthy German family who settled in Monaco when he was not yet born. He is completing his degree in Business Administration and Management in London and at the moment, the couple has no wedding plans.
From today, Monegasques and visitors will be able to enter the complex and tour the most emblematic areas of Maretera, a six-hectare district that falls into the sea, thus extending the surface of the principality by three percent. With continuous expansion since the 1960s, the Principality currently has an area of 208 hectares.
With such projects, Alberto de Monaco follows in the footsteps of his father, Raniero de Monaco, who was called the ‘builder prince’. From the moment he entered the service of Monegasque, Raniero gave life and light to that Mediterranean rock, creating the districts of Larvotto and Fontvieille.
Alberto de Monaco declared, “The challenge we take on is to reconcile a priority that is not compatible: to build on the sea while preserving the environment”. “That’s why I launched this urbanization project by establishing the environmental characteristics specifically demanded for this new space, to embody excellence and harmony, which will be the pride of the principality considered in a few years as a natural extension of our territory.”, he added.
Of the six hectares that Maretera occupies, a green space with pine trees and more than a thousand trees from Tuscany is dedicated exclusively. Furthermore, to protect the fauna, there are 200 square meters of posidonia under the structure and the pillars of the platform are expressly designed to become new habitats for marine animals.
