Princess Mette-Mariet resumed her schedule about a month later, canceling her engagement due to side effects from treatment for pulmonary fibrosis, which she had suffered for years. After lunch with Norway’s bishops at the Royal Palace in Oslo, King Harald’s daughter-in-law and her husband, Prince Haakon, enjoyed an afternoon of football amid all the scandals surrounding Maris Borg, the son the princess had as a daughter.
The pair took part in the Norwegian Cup final at Ulleval Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Fredrikstad faced FK Molde in a very close match that ended in a penalty shootout, with the former winning five goals out of four. Despite the tough times the family is going through, the princes are smiling the most and cheering the team on with their applause.
The heir to the throne and his wife’s appearance at football has created much anticipation due to the princess’s latest cancellation. Since the summer, Mette-Marritt’s eldest son has accused several of his former partners of physical and emotional abuse, and in recent weeks has added three counts of rape, for which he was placed in preventive detention for a week.
Princess Mette-Merite burst into laughter and seemed completely oblivious to her son’s predicament. To combat the chilly temperatures in Oslo this time of year, she wore a black belted puffer jacket, dark pants and mittens with a border print.
After spending a week in pre-trial detention, Maris Borg was released on November 27. Police did not request an extension because they considered there was no danger of Marius destroying evidence or influencing witnesses in the investigation. Agents also warned that another case related to sex crimes was being investigated and confirmed that the previous charge (for rape) had not changed.
Marius Borg has already been arrested three times in three months. In addition to the alleged rape, he faces charges of violence, threats and failure to comply with a restraining order. The criminal case against Mette-Merritt’s son from Norway includes six alleged victims, and two of them are his ex-girlfriends Nora Hockland and Julianne Snekestad. He admitted one charge, but pleaded not guilty to others.
