- Dr Latifa Patel mentioned she was disrespected and 'mistreated'
The docs' union has been embroiled in a recent gender discrimination row after its members had been accused of behaving in an 'inferior' and 'disrespectful' method in the direction of ladies.
Dr Latifa Patel, who chaired the British Medical Affiliation (BMA) annual convention in Belfast this week, claimed she was disrespected and 'handled badly'.
She advised delegates that she and BMA council vice-chairman Dr Emma Runswick had been handled otherwise than their male predecessors.
This reveals that 5 years after Daphne Romney QC led an impartial evaluate into gender discrimination on the docs’ union, the tradition has not modified.
Dr Latifa Patel, who chaired the BMA's annual convention this 12 months, mentioned she had been the sufferer of 'poor behaviour'.
She mentioned she and Dr Emma Runswick (pictured), vice-chair of the BMA council, had been handled otherwise than their male predecessors
The report discovered that some males addressed the ladies with derogatory phrases similar to “naughty women”, touched them inappropriately and stared at their breasts.
Dr Patel urged members to vote for extra ladies and minorities in inside elections. She mentioned: 'If you wish to be a consultant physique, it’s important to assist the ladies round you.'
The dispute threatens to influence the five-day strike by junior docs beginning in the present day.
Critics branded the docs 'hypocrites' for demanding a 35 per cent pay rise and higher working situations whereas importing union-branded hats from China, presumably to be worn throughout sit-ins, the place staff are sometimes handled badly.
