Luis Fernandez Just finished recording Beloved 1922A period series that marked the before and after of his career. But, beyond the challenge of playing a man at the turn of the 20th century, it was the relationship with his co-stars, especially Veronica Sanchez, with whom he fell in love during filming, that made the project even more special. . In this conversation, Lewis shares with us what it was like to work together, the complications they created on set, and how her life has changed professionally and personally since filming. Fast forward 40 years and, between laughs and reflections, he tells us how, like his character, he had to learn to evolve and adapt.
We see you very changed with a new image
Luis Fernandez (LF): In keeping with the hair, I created my quinky look. I’ve been growing it since we finished filming in August.
They say that a new look signifies the beginning of a new life…
LF: Well, I turned 40 on December 31st.
Are you dizzy when you reach that number?
LF: Nothing. I think I’m in the best moment of my life.
Why does it seem like that?
LF: I don’t know, but I notice it.
It would be maturity…
LF: Sure, it could be. I have matured and that is what I have noticed.
You are already at the point where, maybe you don’t know what you want, but you know what you don’t want.
LF: That’s right, it also gives you a bit of maturity.
Are you going to celebrate it differently?
LF: Well, I planned to do something special, but days went by and in the end I couldn’t do anything. I will do something.
what did he give you Beloved 1922?
LF: True, it gave me a lot of pleasure. It has been many years since I worked so happily and in such good spirits. Because there are times when filming is very difficult, things happen, there is tension… But in this one we all shared the same thing and we worked very happily. There is a general good vibe with the whole team from day one. Moreover, it put me in a place I’d never been: a hero of a time, an opportunity I’d never been given.
How did you prepare for this role?
LF: The suit helps a lot. Well, I was filming another series and it caught me a bit… I overlapped the two series. I created the character with Veronica (Sanchez) and Javier Pulidowho is the director During rehearsals, I went up and down from Bilbao. We made Julio with clothes: my voice changed when he came dressed like him, he already looks like, like a gentleman from that time. (laughs)
What do you like most about July?
LF: What I like most about him is that he is a different person from the rest of the men of 1922. He tries so that people don’t notice it, but he’s different: he’s more modern, he’s a little coward and I’m like that, yes.
Why is this so?
LF: Coward, because you’ll see things happen and he’s someone who doesn’t show his face.
How are you in real life? Are you a coward and do not show your face, are you a brave person?
LF: No. I’m not a coward.
What did you take from Julio and what did you leave about yourself in the character?
LF: I left Julio with refreshments, which he needed because, otherwise, everything would have been very serious. And from him, I had the pleasure of being transferred to 1922 and I was able to fulfill many dreams.
How was it working with your co-stars?
LF: Excellent. I did with Andrea Duro Three meters above the skyBut we never met again. It’s been great with them and the rest of the cast, because here we are six or seven main actors, but there are many, many other characters that are important. I enjoyed it very much. Veronica is a machine, one of the best actresses I have worked with in my life, and also one of the best colleagues. He is very generous, but not only with me, but with everyone. It was great to share with everyone and we formed a very nice bond. Vero has done a lot. Logically, he is the hero and ultimately, the one who takes the reins of everything and carries it in his backpack, but I think we were all involved and we all made it happen that way.
The good environment is that there was a WhatsApp group of five heroes and when you found out, asked you to join.
LF: The excuse they gave me for not including me was that I arrived late. I found it logical to have a common WhatsApp group.
And… is there any movement in that chat?
LF: Of course, if there are five women in the group, there is always movement. (laughs)
When you’ve spent so much time immersed in a period film, does it feel strange to come back to the present day? Do you see things differently?
LF: Hair, that gel is horrible, but nothing. (Laughs) When you go there, you leave Julio parked. In the series you will see that they talk about everyday things that already existed. Now, another thing is that they were treated or met in one way or the other. Everything is very careful during filming, and indeed, the kitchens really work. I’ll tell you how I felt the first day of filming: I arrived, I had a sequence with Veronica from the first chapter, where she shows me some food and I can only think about how much I’m sweating with the shirt, the suspenders, the American… a little Little by little I’m taking things away because otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to continue. (laughs)
What anecdotes can you tell us about the recording?
LF: I think I read it once. I don’t remember exactly because so many months ago… for example, I had tendonitis in my knee for two months and you wouldn’t notice it.
its filming Beloved 1922 You had to combine it with that Scary, right?
LF: Yes they are two completely opposite series. That’s why I’m very happy and I think that professionally I’m growing, I’ve matured.
How was the experience of carrying two such different fictions at the same time? It shouldn’t have been easy.
LF: I’m telling you, the first two weeks I was hallucinating. But, in the end, whether you like it or not, this is our job and this project was undoubtedly done by me.
And, after so much work, you are currently on vacation.
LF: Yeah, I’m on hiatus right now, hence the long hair. I invest my time in the countryside, my dog and quiet.
What country do you live in? Many actors are going there now.
LF: Well, they’re leaving, I’m from there. I was born in the neighborhood of Tetun, but I have been in Colmenarejo for 40 years. I had a garden and chickens before, this year I didn’t have time and I didn’t plant anything. But I have friends who give me eggs and vegetables, because they have them. I just finished 30 kilos of olives; I went to Jaén, to a friend’s farm, and I was collecting them by hand.
We talked about cooking and gardening, do you see for yourself MasterChef Celebrity?
LF: If it doesn’t, I win. I don’t know if it goes without saying, but my colleagues say something about it… I wouldn’t have won it, but I cook well, I carry myself well. Or so they say, though it’s ugly to say. My specialties are paella, rice with ribs, stew… I like to cook in general.
You don’t have to go masterchef Because it’s a reality show?
LF: I don’t know if I’ll go. Honestly, I love to cook for you.
