Victoria Kjær Thelvig is this year’s Miss Universe. In the days following the conclusion of the competition, many emotions were felt. As for Ileana Marquez, this year’s Miss Venezuela, there was some controversy surrounding her round of questions.
After making it to the top 5, he answered some questions incorrectly due to misinterpretation by the translator. While the moment was unfortunate, Marquez took the moment with diplomacy and seemed proud to be the fourth finalist in the competition.
His friends and fellow contestants also supported him. Marianella Ancheta, this year’s Miss Cuba, tagged Marquez in a funny meme inspired by the mistranslation.
“The Jury: Coffee and Tea.
Translator: Believe in yourself.”
Marquez re-shared the story and added some smiley-cry emojis.
What happened?
Miss Venezuela had to answer some questions after qualifying as one of the top 5 contestants at Miss Universe. The jury prepared the following: “Describe today’s ideal woman and what do you have in common with her?”
According to Márquez, who explained the moment in an interview with influencer La Divaza, the translator shared a completely different question. “In the first question, he asked me what was the most important thing that happened to me today,” said Marquez, panting from La Divaza.
What did Marquez answer?
Marquez did the best he could with what he was given. “My ideal moment today is sharing the stage with these 127 women, leaving behind boundaries, differences and united in a message of respect, love and unity for the world. This is how you build the world. Thank you,” said Marquez.
Marquez was the fourth finalist and Miss Thailand was third. Miss Mexico and Miss Nigeria took the second and first finalist positions.
