Gage’s role demanded more than psychological depth—it required a physical transformation that would haunt the audience long after the credits rolled. Selenfreund, known for his meticulous approach to artificial design, created an unsettling look for the gauge, layering strange textures with hyper-realistic precision.

A brutal process
Gage conversion into it Smile 2 Personality was no small feat. Applying the prosthetics took several hours each day, starting with a detailed facial cast that allowed Selenfreund to sculpt the custom piece. Layers of silicone and paint were combined to create a disturbingly vivid look. “I mean, I can’t say what specific references I found. It’s hard because it’s a very imaginative thing. But we had a lot of MMA fight references, just extreme nose breaks and stuff like that. Relevant stuff, though nothing like that. . weight plate,” he said, referring to the deformity.
