Camila Cabello is opening up about some of the most personal songs she’s ever written. In a new interview, she appears to hint at her relationship with Shawn Mendes, specifically the love triangle that developed between herself, Mendes and Sabrina Carpenter.
In an interview with Dr NylonCabello discussed the song “June Gloom”, which many fans believe was inspired by a love triangle. “I wrote ‘June Gloom’ after hanging out with [the song’s subject]” she said.
“I went into the studio the next day and said, ‘Jasper, can you play me some beats?’ He was, ‘This one, this one’, and he skipped ‘June Gloom’. I was like, ‘Oh wait! Go back!’
Cabello shared that she asked her producers to leave the studio to have the space she needed to write about topics she didn’t want to write about while others were with her. “When I know I’m going to be intimate, I don’t want anyone [there]” she said.
“I wrote it so quickly because everything is personal to me.”
Mendes and Cabello have a complicated relationship
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have known each other for most of their lives. Despite their ups and downs, the two seem to hold each other in high regard.
In an appearance on Jay Shetty’s podcast, Mendes revealed that dealing with the public eye is difficult, especially when discussing her public breakup with Cabello. “Honestly, I think Camilla and I did the best we could to preserve our little love for each other,” he said.
“Because no matter how mentally strong you are, when millions of people are commenting on it, it’s very hard not to be influenced by it and be influenced by it and be inspired by it and desire it.”
“This is not a movie,” he continued. “That’s real life. That’s real love, and love is confusing and hard and sinks, goes through breaks, goes through breaks.”
