Hours after the Danish Royal House confirmed how Fredrik and Mary’s first Christmas as monarchs was going to be, their eldest son, Crown Prince Christian, shared a message in his own handwriting telling how their adventure to Africa was going when he returned to Denmark. Then his future plans are revealed.
Prince Christian is 19 years old and only fifteen days older than Princess Leonore. Following in the footsteps of his father, his uncle, Prince Joachim, and his grandmother, Queen Margaret, he decided to take a holiday after graduating from school, which is common in some European countries. A period away from home, carrying your important backpack of unforgettable experiences and with it all the freedom that comes from the unknown of living outside your homeland.
In his case, Frederick X’s first child has been in East Africa since September and his adventure is coming to an end. Before returning home, he wanted to share photos and reflections of what he said was “an experience I will never forget,” and he announced that he would begin his military training in February.
“I have been in East Africa for about three months. Daily life here is completely different than at home. Food, culture, climate, wildlife, work and people make it “An experience I will never forget” There is no doubt that cold and green Denmark has nothing to do with the heat and African savannah.
Yuvraj also offers details of his work there, a period that is considered private and until now they have had almost no details. “In recent weeks, I have been working on nature conservation. I supervise and record the animals in the bush and look after the farm office. The video shows I get very close to wild animals when they are anesthetized. And their GPS collars must be replaced.” Indeed, Queen Margaret’s grandson can be seen in the middle of nature, with short hair and water bailing, construction work and riding a quad. Perhaps the most spectacular images, though, are those in which he is seen playing a lion.
“I learned a lot about life here and helped build new homes for the workers. I also played some good games of football with the local boys. But now I’m also looking forward to being back in Denmark, at home with the family and celebrating Christmas in a few weeks,” he said with some nostalgia.
‘I will start working as a military officer in February’
His words were surprised when he revealed his next steps. “Now I look forward to new challenges! In February I will start working as a military officer in the Guard Regiment in Slagels.” Thus, the future king assumed that military training would be his next step, just as Princess Leonor and Ingrid of Norway did, and the university would have to wait, at least for the moment. Slagels is a town of about 32,000 inhabitants in eastern Denmark that dates back to the 10th century. Founded by Vikings.
Before that, Prince Christian will be able to reunite with his family and enjoy Christmas at Marselisberg Palace in the city of Aarhus, where, in addition to reuniting with his parents and three brothers, he will be able to see his grandmother, Queen Margaret. It will be the first time for him to celebrate the most beloved days of the year as the heir to the throne.
