After the New York Jets’ tough 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Jets cornerback DJ Reid pointed the finger at the officials.
The Jets, who failed to score after halftime, were plagued by penalties throughout the game, especially in the second half. The referee prompted Reid to express his displeasure on social media shortly after the game ended.
In a post on X, Reed tagged the official NFL account with a censored swear word. “You suck, you should be ashamed of yourself!” Reed wrote.
New York finished the game with 12 penalties, resulting in a loss of 83 yards compared to the Seahawks’ five penalties for 50 yards.
One of those Jets penalties was a holding call on Reed, who was flagged in the first quarter while covering Seattle receiver Tyler Lockett. The drive later resulted in the Seahawks’ first touchdown of the game.
Four Jets penalties resulted in a Seattle first down, including several on fourth-and-short downs and other high-impact situations. Midway through the fourth quarter, a big fourth-and-1 stop from the Jets was overturned by a horse-collar tackle by Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, who ran for the game-winning touchdown on the same recovered drive.
Reed, a two-season former Seahawk, finished the game with a strong stat line against his former team, totaling four solo tackles and one pass deflection out of seven. His success didn’t transfer to the rest of New York, who fell to 3-9 and are now assured of their ninth losing season.
