Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s home was broken into when Cincinnati beat the Dallas Cowboys on “Monday Night Football.”
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the break-in to local media in Cincinnati. Police were called to Barro’s home in the Cincinnati suburb of Anderson Township for a report of a break-in around 8 p.m. local time Monday.
Authorities did not provide further details about the break-in. Neither Baro nor the Bengals had publicly addressed the news as of early Tuesday afternoon. WLWT in Cincinnati obtained a recording of the 911 call related to the break-in.
“Someone’s trying to break into the house right now,” said an unidentified caller. “My daughter is there. It’s Joe Burrow’s house. She lives there. She plays football.
“He’s wondering what he should do, if he should hide, or if he should go out. He said there’s someone in the house.”
Another caller identified by WLWT as the daughter of the initial 911 call was called 911.
“Someone broke into my house,” she said. “It’s like total chaos.”
Sportsmen’s homes are frequent targets of burglars
The break-in comes amid a string of high-profile thefts targeting professional athletes, some of which took place while they were playing games. The break-ins prompted warnings from the NFL and NBA to their players.
The homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were reported burglarized in October. Mahomes’ home was reportedly broken into just after midnight on Oct. 6, a Sunday before the Chiefs played the New Orleans Saints at home on Monday night. It is unclear who was home at the time of the burglary.
Kelce’s home was vandalized during Kansas City’s game against the Saints. According to a police report cited by the Kansas City Star, the back door was damaged and $20,000 in cash was stolen.
In the NBA, the homes of Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley were burglarized. Portis’ home was vandalized during Milwaukee’s November 2 home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Portis revealed that “several valuables” were stolen during the break-in.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Conley’s home was burglarized and jewelry stolen while attending a Vikings home game on Sept. 15.
