A day after unveiling the impressive new portrait of the monarchs by Annie Leibovitz, which has traveled around the world, Don Felipe and Dona Letizia continue their agenda. This Wednesday they went to deliver to the Royal Artillery Factory in Seville Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2023. These are recognitions with which the Ministry of Culture has distinguished 37 cultural figures and institutions and they include, posthumously, María Teresa Campos, Spain’s communications legend. Their daughters Terrelu Campos and Carmen Borrego enthusiastically participated in the tribute, although it was the first to collect the award from the monarchs, 21 years after their romance was revealed.
Before the monarchs arrived, some guests and dignitaries attended the Royal Artillery Factory. Among them, some familiar faces like Los del Rio, Los Morancos, Diana Navarro, Gema Cuervo, Juan y Medio, Terrelu Campos himself and Carmen Borrego. Later, Don Felipe and Dona Letizia bring the whole team of authorities. Rani opted for a dark pink knit dress with long sleeves and open legs for the occasion.
Terelu couldn’t be more proud of her mother’s legacy. As he went to collect the medal, he raised his hands in remembrance and dedication to Maria Teresa and looked up at the sky. Apart from the tribute, the event also served as a reunion with the monarchs, two decades after the revelation of their affair that prompted the announcement of the engagement of the then Prince of Asturias to Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, a journalist for Telediario. On October 31, 2003, Terrelu Campos was in charge of the Telemadrid program for six years. Afternoon with T. Presenter Don revealed the identity of Felipe’s fiancee.
It was not planned that he would reveal this information, but Maria Teresa intervened and everything changed. Terellu herself said there was a lot of misleading information and some journalist friends she talked to about the matter told her that Ms. Letizia was just a friend. The director of the television space only offered clues about the girlfriend of the heir to the throne so that viewers can draw their own conclusions. In the middle of the broadcast, an assistant handed the presenter a sign that said: “Your mother asked you to say the name.” Terelu did not heed the instructions and they showed him another poster with the same message. Then he asked the rest of the associates: “Who are you talking about? From Letizia Ortiz?” This information prompted the now-queen to present the news for the last time, and the following day, November 1, 2003, the royal family announced the engagement.
Added to all this circumstance was the fact that Terrellu’s daughter Alejandra Rubio was a student at the Santa María de los Rosales school, which Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia attended. Although they are of different ages, they have met for some time in school.
Queen Letizia’s advice to Tereluk
Since then and until today, Terelu Campos has met the kings on several occasions, as happened this Wednesday, and their relationship is cordial. In fact, in 2004 the associate was invited to a luncheon at Zarzuela, but Dona Letizia could not attend because she was close to giving birth to Princess Leonor. However, he spoke to Terelu on the phone whom he mentored at a time when he was not having his best professional moment. “He told me: ‘I understand you completely, I understand that not everyone can like you, but my job and my job is to please the vast majority.’ In September 2023, the Campos sisters once again felt the love of the royal family when they sent their condolences on the death of their mother.
