Marcelo Hernandez proudly bares his legs on the most recent “Saturday Night Live” episode. The 27-year-old comedian has quickly become one of the most memorable parts of SNL and added Paul Mescal’s monologue as his latest bit.
Hernandez’s role was set by Mescal, who was discussing some of the misconceptions surrounding the Irish, and people in the UK.
“A lot of people ask if we wear kilts – no, it’s Scottish,” he said. “Traditionally, the Irish wear short shorts.”
Hernandez joined Mescal onstage wearing some bright blue shorts and a button-up, referencing the many memes since Mescal began being photographed by paparazzi during runs or workouts in various cities.
“I’m trying to be like you. Like what you see?” Hernandez said, slapping his thigh.
“Absolutely not. However, they are very small,” said Mescal.
Hernandez disagreed. “Well you know what they say, Paul. The shorter the shorts, the taller you look.”
More details in Mescal’s episode
It marked Mescal’s first time hosting a storied comedy show and featured many pop culture highlights and references, trying to work opposite his type of “serious” Hollywood actor.
Mescal recently starred in “Gladiator 2,” one of the biggest releases of the year. Co-starring Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and more, the film stars Mescal as he climbs the ranks of the gladiator arena in hopes of gaining his freedom and his revenge.
The film opened with “Wicked,” which inspired one of the best skits of the night, with Mescal playing a musical version of his Gladiator. At the end of the video, Mescal is seen flying out of the Colosseum wearing a black hat and on a broomstick, much like “Wicked” protagonist Elphaba.
