Prince William cancels royal visit last-minute – details

The Prince of Wales has taken a last-minute decision to cancel his visit, which was planned for May 23, 2024.

Prince will no longer attend scheduled event following updated guidance Buckingham Palace, And hello! In a statement provided to the Daily Mail, Kensington Palace said: “We hope to reschedule the event in the future and we are extremely sorry for those who have already traveled.”

The decision comes after King Charles and Queen Camilla announced changes to their schedule, as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the general election will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the royal couple confirmed that all royal events “which may seem distracting or divert attention from the election campaign” have been canceled or postponed. Buckingham Palace said the king and queen had “sincerely apologized” to those affected.

The news comes after King Charles met the PM on Wednesday and agreed to his request to dissolve Parliament.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said on Wednesday: “Following the announcement of the general election by the Prime Minister this afternoon, the Royal Household will, in line with normal procedure, suspend engagements which may appear to distract or detract from the election campaign. Her Majesty offers her sincere apologies to all those who may be affected as a result.”

The result of the July 4 election will determine whether Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party is voted out of government. If that happens, the monarch will be set for a third prime minister in her short reign. She welcomed Mr Sunak as her second prime minister just six weeks after he ascended the throne following the resignation of Liz Truss.

The King and Queen have also postponed their engagement

The royal couple's appearances in Portsmouth and Normandy in June to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day will go on as scheduled.

While he is due to attend a Ministry of Defense and Royal British Legion commemoration event at the British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer, Prince William to mark this poignant anniversary with Canadian government At Juno Beach Center.

They will also be joined by Canadian Armed Forces personnel and World War II veterans. The father of three is also expected to attend the international memorial ceremony on Omaha Beach, and will be joined by veterans and 25 world heads of state.
