He has a very sweet moment. She became successful as a model and jewelery designer and warmed to the pit to launch herself as a fashion designer. He found the balance between professional and personal. With a special twinkle in her eye, she tells us excitedly.
-Rocio, you were our cover a few years ago and you surprised us with the launch of your jewelery brand, how has everything evolved since then?
-I have grown a lot as a businessman. Now, I handle situations with more calmness and perspective, prioritizing the important things, even though I continue to face new challenges every day. Experience is the best teacher.
-Last year, you designed your first fashion collection, was that the final step towards ready-to-wear?
-Yes, it’s something I want to do more professionally. For now, I’m exploring and taking baby steps, waiting for the right moment to fully dive in.
– How about the first line?
-I want my creations to adapt to all types of women and bodies. Unique pieces, for special occasions, that remain wardrobe staples.
-The dress you designed for Aruca Fernandez-Vega for her son Nacho Aragon’s wedding made her one of the most elegant godmothers and her look went viral, how was the experience?
-Designing for her was such a pleasure, she trusted me completely and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for. I hope this is just the beginning of many similar projects.
-You say that inspiration comes from what you see and know, but is your own style also one of your creative sources?
-Absolutely, though my style has changed, and continues to do so. Earlier I didn’t experiment much with prints and colors, but now I’m very much into it.
-What will we soon find in your new jewelry?
-I am working on a capsule collection that is bigger than the previous ones. My goal is to stay true to my line and ensure the production is ethical rather than following the rhythm of the season.
-Jewelry has been ranked as a star accessory for everyday life, why do you think it is due to?
-I think many jewels are because of the stories they hold: heirlooms, gifts, promises… In addition, they enhance any look and complete it.
-Do you keep something with special sentimental value, which gives you ‘luck’ and you go to castings and important appointments?
-A rosary from my mother, a stone from my great aunt and a ring from my grandmother.
-You’ve been modeling for almost ten years now, what fascinates you about this profession that you can’t get enough of?
-It makes me feel alive. Constantly traveling, meeting new people and discovering places fills me up, although sometimes I wish I had a more stable routine. This profession is demanding, but it has given me unique experience and taught me a lot, as I am very observant.
-Did you ever get lured into the world of communications because your parents and brother were journalists?
-I am passionate about the world of communication. I watch little television, because I don’t have time, but I always take the radio with me. It is a medium that accompanies me, informs me and nourishes me wherever I go.
-What do you do to look bright in front and behind the camera?
– I like sleeping the most. But it’s a privilege that I don’t get often. The rest is attitude. It is reflected outside.
“Aruca Fernández-Vega was a real joy designing the bridesmaid dresses for her son, Nacho Aragon’s wedding. “He believed in me completely, and I will always be grateful.”
-They say that being prepared is about honoring and respecting others, do you share that?
-I dress up because I love it, but also out of respect for the occasion.
-Travel around the world, do photoshoots, ensure the growth of your brand… Do you find time for yourself and your loved ones?
-Yes, even if it’s a day or an afternoon. I maintain constant contact with my family and friends. When I am in Spain, I organize group activities so that everyone can enjoy them to the fullest.
-If you didn’t dedicate yourself to this industry, what would you have chosen?
-I’m good at decorating, maybe I’ll go that route.
-You are in love with New York, but go back to Seville whenever you can, where you feel most at home?
-Right now, my home is New York, where I have my home and my routine. But Seville and Madrid are my roots and where my family is.
-You are very close to your parents and especially your brother, are you lucky to have your best friend in him? How is your relationship?
-We have a very special bond. I have absolute admiration for him. It’s my everything, my life. We are very similar in many ways, we know each other perfectly and we share the same sense of humor.
-And with your parents, are you friends or more of a ‘parent’?
-They are my parents, but I trust them a lot and I know that I can always count on their support.
-What would you say is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given and why?
– They taught me values like humility, effort, determination and knowing how to be. It is instilled in me that you always treat everyone with respect, no matter the context.
