The Detroit Lions are signing former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday.
Adams will sign with Detroit’s practice squad with plans to eventually promote him to the active roster, according to reports. News of the deal with the Lions for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs Detroit is 11-1 after a Thanksgiving win over the Chicago Bears.
Adams, 29, most recently played for the Tennessee Titans after signing as a free agent in the offseason. He played sparingly in three games with the Titans before being released in October.
Adams played the previous seven NFL seasons with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. Adams was an All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler in three seasons with the Jets as one of the NFL’s best defenders.
The Jets traded Adams to the Seahawks in 2020 in exchange for a package that included two first-round draft picks. He signed a four-year, $71 million contract with the Seahawks that made him the NFL’s highest-paid safety at the time.
Adams was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in his first season with the Seahawks, but then experienced regression through three injury-plagued seasons in Seattle. He played a combined 22 games over three seasons from 2021-23, and the Seahawks released him in 2024 to save salary-cap space.
The Lions are likely hoping Adams can find some of his former All-Pro form to make a difference in the postseason.
